PS5 Pro Hardware Design Has Been Leaked, Announcement Expected In Early September 2024

The hardware design for Sony Interactive Entertainment’s rumored mid-gen console, the PS5 Pro, has been leaked ahead of an official announcement.

Dealabs, which is known for leaking game industry announcements ahead of schedule, has managed to get hold of exclusive information regarding the hardware design of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s new console, the PS5 Pro. It is mentioned that the console’s appearance was obtained via a screenshot of the front of its final packaging. Due to copyright reasons, the website is unable to share the actual screenshot, though it has provided an sketch based on it in order to illustrate the console’s hardware design (see below).

PS5 Slim vs PS5 Pro Hardware Design Comparison

A comparison between the PS5 Slim and the PS5 Pro sketch shared by Dealabs can be seen below.

As seen above, the hardware design of the PS5 Pro is quite similar to that of the PS5 Slim, featuring the same exterior. The front of the console will include two USB-C ports and a power button. The first noticeable difference from the sketch is the presence of three black stripes in the middle of the PS5 Pro’s faceplates, although their appearance largely remains similar to those seen on the PS5 Slim. This likely means that custom and special edition faceplates designed for the PS5 Slim will be compatible with the PS5 Pro. Another difference, seen in the PS5 Pro’s hardware design is that it appears slightly thicker than the PS5 Slim.

The leaker is not certain about the lack of a disc drive on the PS5 Pro’s leaked design. The leaked screenshot of the packaging shows the console without a disc drive. It’s possible that while an edition with a disc drive may not exist, the PS5 disc drive sold separately may be compatible with the new console. It is believed that Sony Interactive Entertainment may have made this decision to sell the console at a more competitive price by reducing costs associated with including a disc drive.

According to Dealabs, the PS5 Pro announcement is expected to happen during the first half of September, 2024. Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.
