Sony Could Be Waiting Until After GTA VI for New Announcements, Infamous Return Rumored

by Ali Haider

New comments from VGC Podcast hosts Jordan Middler and Alex Donaldson have sparked fresh speculation about Sony’s future PlayStation lineup, with claims suggesting the company may be deliberately holding back announcements until after the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI.

During a recent episode of the podcast, the pair discussed unannounced PlayStation projects, release timing strategies, and the possibility of older Sony franchises returning.

Jordan Middler suggested that Sony still has several projects in the works behind the scenes. “But surely there are like we all know in this chat of many games that are waiting to go until GTA’s out the way and stuff that like Sony have good stuff that they’ve just not spoken about yet,” Middler said. He added that there are “smaller scale stuff obviously, but there’s stuff that will please the red meat for the base,” referencing older “catalog titles” the podcast has previously discussed.

Alex Donaldson echoed the idea that publishers may be avoiding direct competition with Rockstar Games’ upcoming release. “I do believe that there’s a lot of games that are sort of either being held back or their dev schedules have been deliberately timed to place them after the GTA bomb has gone off,” he said.

Donaldson added that once the release window passes, players could see a wave of announcements and launches arrive in quick succession. “That means I think we will get a flood and it can often be these things, you know, it’s like buses, you wait for ages and then a shedload of really good games come along at once.”

The discussion also shifted toward Sony’s current software output and the perceived absence of smaller experimental titles within PlayStation Studios. Donaldson argued that Microsoft currently has an advantage in that area through teams like Double Fine and Obsidian. “They’re missing weird little games,” he said while discussing Sony’s lineup strategy.

Perhaps the most notable comment came when Middler briefly mentioned Infamous. “I’m under the impression that there is an infamous thing happening somewhere else in PlayStation at the minute, not tied to them,” he said, seemingly suggesting that a project related to the franchise may exist outside of Sucker Punch Productions.

The comments follow earlier remarks from Middler hinting that Sony may also be revisiting older PlayStation properties such as Ape Escape and Wipeout. In the same VGC Podcast, Middler said, “They need to get that little ape back,” while also expressing interest in seeing a new Wipeout game after the release of Wipeout Omega Collection on PlayStation 4.

None of the discussed projects have been officially confirmed by Sony, and the claims currently remain speculation based on comments made during the podcast discussion.
