This isn’t the first time we’ve heard of a remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion being in development. Back in July, 2023, an alleged ex-employee of Virtuous Games had claimed that the studio had been working on five different projects, arguably the biggest of which is project “Altar”, which they described as a remaster/remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. According to the source, the discussion regarding the The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion project being a full remake was still ongoing at the time. They mentioned that the game runs on both Unreal Engine 5 and the old Oblivion engine in tandem. They clarified that the new graphics are rendered in Unreal Engine 5, but most of the gameplay/physics is still done in the original engine.

To add further fuel to the fire, it was discovered on the Linkedin profile of Assistant Technical Director at Virtuos Games, Troy Mason, that the studio had been working on three unannounced games, two of which were set for release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Later in September, 2023, a leaked document from Microsoft that was presented as part of its court case against FTC contained the lineup of future titles from Bethesda Game Studios, and it included mention of a remaster of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
