Ubisoft Hosted Mario + Rabbids 2 Event May Happen By End Of June 2022

Ubisoft may be hosting a Mario + Rabbids 2 event on June 29, 2022, according to a new rumor. The event is said to be independent of Nintendo’s own showcase i.e. Nintendo Direct, so as to avoid overshadowing the Mario spin-off.

According to the editor in chief of Universo Nintendo, Necro Felipe, a special gameplay segment for Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope is scheduled to be hosted by Ubisoft instead of Nintendo this Wednesday.

In his response to a Twitter user’s question regarding the possibility of Nintendo-related news this week despite there being a 3rd party focused Nintendo Direct in the near future, Felipe said that there’s a small chance that Ubisoft will host its own even in order to cover Mario + Rabbids 2. He further clarified that he thinks this is because Nintendo doesn’t want to overshadow the game’s coverage.

As for whether what Necro Felipe has heard comes to fruition remains to be seen. Though, given that other sources, including former IGN game journalist Alanah Pearce, have been hinting at a Nintendo-related event happening by the end of June 2022, it’s likely that this Mario + Rabbids 2 special event from Ubisoft may be it.

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope is an upcoming turn-based strategy adventure game co-developed in collaboration and co-lead between the Ubisoft Paris and Ubisoft Milan studios, and published by Ubisoft for the Nintendo Switch. The game is a follow-up to Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle from 2017 and features characters from both the Mario and Rabbids IPs from Nintendo and Ubisoft. It’s scheduled to be released sometime in 2022.

Sparks of Hope’s gameplay is quite similar to Kingdom Battle’s. Nine characters are available for players to choose from, including Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Rabbid Peach, Rabbid Luigi, Rabbid Mario, and others including the brand-new Rabbid Rosalina. In the galaxy, players are also responsible with saving the Sparks, each of which has unique abilities that will aid them in combat. The Beep-0 character again acts as the other characters’ leader.

The level design is less linear than in the original game, and the turn-based tactical combat uses a new system that doesn’t use the grid-based layout of the original. This new combat system has been compared to that of games like Divinity: Original Sin. Enemy encounters that don’t involve turn-based fighting are also featured in the game.
