Far Cry TV Series Casts Steve Buscemi for FX

by Greg Martin

FX has announced that Steve Buscemi has joined the cast of its upcoming Far Cry TV series, adding another high-profile name to the anthology adaptation of Ubisoft’s long-running video game franchise.

Buscemi joins previously announced cast members Rob Mac and Lizzy Caplan in the limited series, which is headed by Noah Hawley and Rob Mac. The show will premiere on FX and Hulu in the US, while international audiences will be able to watch it on Disney+.

Like the games that inspired it, the Far Cry TV series will follow an anthology format. Each season will feature a new setting, a fresh cast of characters and a standalone story rather than continuing a single narrative across multiple seasons.

Buscemi brings decades of film and television experience to the project. His credits include Reservoir Dogs, Fargo, The Big Lebowski and The Death of Stalin, while his television work includes Boardwalk Empire, Miracle Workers, The Sopranos, 30 Rock and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. He is an eight-time Emmy Award nominee and most recently appeared in the second season of Netflix’s Wednesday.

The series is being executive produced by Hawley, whose previous work includes FX’s Fargo and Alien: Earth, alongside Rob Mac, best known as the creator of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and an executive producer of Welcome to Wrexham.

Additional executive producers include Simon Emanuel, Emilia Serrano, Nick Frenkel, Monica Macer, Peter Calloway, John Campisi, Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin and Austin Dill. The series is being produced by FX Productions in collaboration with Ubisoft Film & Television.

Ubisoft’s Far Cry franchise debuted in 2004 and has attracted more than 100 million unique players worldwide. The series is known for its standalone stories, open-world settings, first-person action and memorable villains, a structure that the television adaptation will continue through its anthology format.
