Rumor: Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet Draws Inspiration From Open-Ended Player Freedom Of Elden Ring

Sony Interactive Entertainment and Naughty Dog’s upcoming action-adventure game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, allegedly draws inspiration from Elden Ring.

During the latest episode of the MinnMax Show on YouTube, co-host Ben Hansen shared insight into his comment from an earlier episode regarding Naughty Dog’s next title drawing comparisons with “a game with a lot of player freedom”. He revealed that the game he was referring to is none other than FromSoftware’s Elden Ring.

According to Hanson, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet draws inspiration from the open-ended freedom offered by Elden Ring.  He had opted not to reveal the latter’s name back when he made the original comment because he had felt the initial trailer for Naughty Dog’s upcoming title may not have conveyed these elements, and that’s exactly how things went. However, now that studio is sharing more details, such as the game taking place on one planet and the protagonist being on a journey to uncover the alien world’s history, it’s now possible to see where the comparison with Elden Ring was coming from.

Back in October, 2024, in his original comment, Hanson had mentioned hearing from somebody very in the know who worked on Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet that “people are not ready for how amazing it is going to be”. He had also said that the game that was referenced as a point of comparison to Naughty Dog’s title has a lot of player freedom. We now know that game is Elden Ring.

Recently, it was revealed by Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet director Neil Druckmann that the game is all about being lonely. He pointed out that Naughty Dog has worked on several games that often have an AI-driven companion tag along with the player. With Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, it’ll be the opposite, as the game director wants the player to feel lost in a place that they have no idea about, and to wonder what happened on the planet, who its inhabitants are, and what their history is.
