PS5 and PS5 Pro may se a 100 to 200 US Dollar price hike if Sony Interactive Entertainment follows Microsoft’s Xbox tariff adjustment.
David Gibson, Senior Analyst at MST Financial, took to Twitter/X to share his thoughts on the recent changes in pricing of Xbox products. According to him, Xbox Series X hardware price increase of about 100 US Dollars likely means that the company is taking a hit on some of the tariff-related cost, as the import tariff for China is currently 145%.

Gibson believes Microsoft is likely relying on the assumption that the import tariff on China will eventually normalize to 40%. Only time will tell whether that will end up being the case, however.
The MST Financial analyst wondered how Sony Interactive Entertainment will respond to the increased import tariff on China. He believes that, unlike Microsoft, PlayStation will not take a hit on profit, and both the PS5 and PS5 Pro will receive a price hike of 200 US Dollars or more this month in May, 2025. If that ends up being the case, the standard PS5 that comes with a dis drive will retail for at least 699.99 US Dollars (the existing price of the PS5 Pro), while the PS5 Pro will sell for at least 899.99 US Dollars.
Microsoft recently announced a global price increase for all Xbox Series consoles and several key accessories, effective May 1, 2025. This shift in pricing came alongside confirmation that new first-party Xbox games will be priced at $79.99 starting from the 2025 holiday season. According to the company, these changes reflect rising development costs and evolving market dynamics. In the United States, the Xbox Series S and Series X lines have seen substantial hikes. The Xbox Series S 512GB model, previously sold at $299.99, now retails for $379.99, while the 1TB version jumps from $349.99 to $429.99. The standard Xbox Series X is now priced at $599.99, a $100 increase from its original $499.99 price point. A new digital-only Xbox Series X variant is also available for $549.99, and the 2TB Galaxy Special Edition model sees its price increase to $729.99.
