Sony has announced that PlayStation 5 lifetime console shipments have reached 93.7 million units as part of its fiscal year 2025 financial results. The updated figure reflects continued momentum for the platform even as hardware sales begin to slow during the later stages of the console cycle.
The company’s Game and Network Services division generated ¥4.69 trillion in revenue during FY2025, while operating income increased to ¥463.3 billion. Sony noted that profitability improved despite major impairment charges tied to Bungie.
Sony highlighted growth in network services revenue and increased sales of third-party software as major contributors to the division’s performance. The company also pointed to strong engagement across the PlayStation ecosystem, with Monthly Active Users reaching 125 million accounts in March 2026, a record high for a fourth quarter period. Total play time also increased year over year.
While hardware sales declined compared to the previous fiscal year, Sony indicated that digital spending and recurring services continue to play a larger role in the business. Network services, including PlayStation Plus subscriptions and PlayStation Store purchases, were specifically identified as important drivers of profitability.
Looking ahead, Sony forecasts Game and Network Services revenue will decline slightly in FY2026, though operating income is expected to rise significantly. The company cited stronger first-party software sales and the absence of major impairment losses as key reasons for the projected increase.
Sony also stated that it is increasing investment in its next-generation platform initiatives, signaling continued long-term development for the future of the PlayStation ecosystem.
