Red Dead Redemption 2 Can Now Run On Android Devices, But Only Barely

Rockstar Games’ open world action adventure game, Red Dead Redemption 2, can now run on Android devices, but only barely.

YouTuber Serg Pavlov has shared a video in which they have successfully managed to get Red Dead Redemption 2 to run on an Android device. However, as they have mentioned in the video description, the game runs rather very poorly, with a low frame rate that often dips into single digits, texture bugs, and audio stutter.

The YouTuber was able to run it on their Red Magic 9 Pro 12/256 Android smartphone with OS version 14 under a Windows compatibility layer. Despite the disappointing performance, simply getting it to work on Android devices is a major achievement in itself. This also bodes well for GTA V to eventually run on Android devices. It would likely run at a better frame rate, considering how the game is less taxing on hardware compared to Red Dead Redemption 2.

According to the settings shared by the content creator, Red Dead Redemption 2 is made to run on their Android device via Wine 9.3, Dynarec 25, Turnip V6.5, DVXK Dev. The game is shown running at a resolution of 960×540 on 0-7 cores with in-game graphic settings set to the Low preset using the DirectX 12 API.

For now, Red Dead Redemption 2 fans will have to wait until there are some optimizations to Windows emulation on Android. Future mobile hardware should also be able to brute force past some of the existing performance issues.

Last month, Rockstar Games released a new update for Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC, PS4 and Xbox One, which focused on fixing issues players had encountered in Red Dead Online and improving game stability and performance across all platforms, with specific attention given to the PC version.
