Sony is expected to hold a State of Play and announce the PS5 Pro during the presentation in the last week of September, 2024, based on the latest information.

During the latest episode of Jeff Grubb’s Game Mess, the podcast host shared that he’s heard about a PlayStation State of Play in the last week of September, 2024, and that the console maker may have a PS5 Pro announcement either during the presentation or leading up to it.

Grubb further stated that he’s confident about the upcoming PlayStation presentation being a State of Play and not a showcase. Regarding the console’s price, he believes that it will end up costing at least 599 US Dollars. He said that the intended enthusiast target audience will be willing to pay the premium price.

As for whether the PS5 Pro will be considered a worthwhile product, Grubb believes that the console will underwhelm the PlayStation audience more so than the PS4 Pro did at the time of its launch. Whether that will be the case remains to be seen. A lot depends on the kind of support the console will receive after launch, and how many existing titles will be patched to support the new hardware features.

Previously, Dealabs, which is known for leaking game industry announcements ahead of schedule, had managed to get a hold of a screenshot of the front of the PS5 Pro’s final packaging. Due to copyright reasons, they were unable to share the actual screenshot, though they did provide a sketch based on it in order to illustrate the console’s hardware design (as seen above). The leaker was uncertain about the lack of a disc drive on the PS5 Pro’s leaked design. It’s possible that while an edition with a disc drive may not exist, the PS5 disc drive sold separately may be compatible with the new console.
