The arrival of The Last of Us TV show has given a major boost to sales for both entries in Naughty Dog’s game series.
According to game sales charts data available at online retailer Amazon, sales of The Last of Us Remastered and The Last of Us Part II on PS4 and The Last of Us Part I on PS5 have seen a major boost since the premiere of the HBO TV show.
Interest in the franchise is at an all-time high, with the TV series receiving a tremendous amount of praise from critics and fans alike. This is leading to a lot of positive word of mouth, which is causing a resurgence of interest in the game series. In particular, The Last of Us Part II for the PS4 has seen a major surge in sales, taking it to the very top of the best sellers list for the platform.
The remastered version of the first game also sits close to the top of the PS4 charts. Meanwhile, while not quite significant, the recently released The Last of Us Part I for PS5 has also received a boost in sales since prior to the TV show’s premiere. This surge in sales for both games across PS4 and PS5 is expected to continue, as more episodes become available each week on HBO and HBO Max.
PS Plus Premium subscribers on the fence about The Last of Us remake, also known as The Last of Us Part I, now have the opportunity to try a 2-hour game trial and decide whether it is for them.
Previously, the series showrunner for HBO’s The Last of Us referred to the game as the “greatest story” in video game history. Speaking during an interview, Craig Mazin claimed that the video game of the same name features the greatest story that has ever been told in all of gaming. He termed it as an “open-and-shut case”.
