It appears that Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will be receiving DLC at some point in the future.
The official website for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom contains a reference to unannounced DLC. Scrolling to the bottom of the page shows a number of footnotes, among which is the mention of DLC for the game.
The footnote states that the full version of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will be required in order to use its DLC. It is also clarified that the aforementioned DLC will be sold separately. Therefore, this isn’t referring to any free DLC that the game may also receive in future.
Previously, the pre-order date for the OLED Nintendo Switch model themed after The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was possibly leaked. A Reddit user had spotted that retail stores have a new Nintendo Switch SKU set to be available for pre-order on the date of March 10, 2023, in their database, suggesting that it may be The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom OLED model. While it may end up being another Nintendo Switch SKU, the timing of availability for pre-order suggests that it is more likely to be The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom edition of the console.
It was also reported that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom may just be the Nintendo Switch’s swan song, as the console maker prepares for the next generation. VGC’s Andy Robinson estimated that Nintendo will start talking about its next generation console by 2024, and he wasn’t convinced that another huge first-party game other than The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is left on the Nintendo Switch.
Tears of the Kingdom is the latest action-adventure game in The Legend of Zelda series that is developed and published by Nintendo. It is the follow-up to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (2017), and will be available on the Nintendo Switch on May 12, 2023.
