Sony had an excellent year in 2020 with some great PS4 exclusives and the trend will continue in 2021 with even more games coming to the PlayStation 5.
We have compiled a video and list of games that are launching in 2021. This only includes the games that are confirmed as exclusives for the PS5. While some of the games included in this list are confirmed to launch in 2021 including Returnal, due to the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic, others might end up facing a possible delay.
Regardless of taking a potential delay into account, here is a list of games that we think are the top 5 PlayStation 5 exclusives, and the best part is that they might release soon.
Top 5 Upcoming PlayStation 5 Exclusives In 2021
Horizon Forbidden West
It is impossible to make such a list and not mention Horizon Forbidden West. The sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn is set to launch in 2021 for the PS4 and PS5 and will continue the story of Aloy. It was shown during Sony’s Future of Gaming event where they revealed some of the upcoming PlayStation 5 games, while it was confirmed to be cross-generation shortly before the launch of the PlayStation 5.
As per the official website, Horizon Forbidden West will set Aloy on an adventure to explore distant lands, fight bigger and more awe-inspiring machines, and encounter astonishing new tribes with a return to the far-future, post-apocalyptic world of Horizon. The game promises a bigger world, more new enemies, and new gameplay mechanics.
As life on Earth faces extinction, it’s up to Aloy to uncover the secrets behind these threats and restore order and balance to the world. Along the way, she must reunite with old friends, forge alliances with warring new factions and unravel the legacy of the ancient past – all the while trying to stay one step ahead of a seemingly undefeatable new enemy.
Gran Turismo 7
Polyphony Digital is renowned in the world for the Gran Turismo series, which is a car-driving simulator that is unmatched in the industry. It took the developers on the whole generation after skipping it on PS4, but a brand new mainline Gran Turismo is finally launching along with the PS5.
Gran Turismo 7 was originally set to launch in the first half of 2021, but it was later revealed to be targeting 2021 and no longer a specific window. As a result, while the game might arrive next year, we are not sure of the exact release date or window for it.
GT7 will offer classic vehicles and tracks to the reintroduction of the legendary GT Simulation Mode. Players can also practice and compete in the FIA Championships and Sport Mode. There is also a training mode that lets players refine and create in the evolved tuning and customization mode or improve their skills and racing strategies through Driving School.
Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart
The Ratchet and Clank series didn’t get a successor on the PlayStation 4. Insomniac remade the first game instead, but fans won’t have to wait long for a new entry on the PlayStation 5. The game is confirmed to launch in the first half of 2021 for the PlayStation 5.
The new adventure featuring the titular Lombax Ratchet and his trusty sidekick robot offers a dimension-hopping story with a mysterious character joining the main cast. Players can jump between action-packed worlds, and beyond at mind-blowing speeds – complete with dazzling visuals and an insane arsenal.
The game offers support for Haptic Feedback and Adaptive Triggers, and it is confirmed to be a PlayStation 5 exclusive that will use the hardware to its advantage offering fast load times, Tempest 3D Audio, and unique features of the DualSense controller.
Final Fantasy XVI
Square Enix is starting the new generation with a bang with a brand new mainline Final Fantasy game, and it looks better than ever with a stellar list of developers behind it.
Final Fantasy XVI is a PS5 exclusive that has been heavily rumored to release in 2021, but that could change with the impact of COVID-19 on the development of the game. Final Fantasy XVI’s adventure takes place in a land called Valisthea. This fantastical location is surrounded by colossal mountains and glistering crystals called Mothercrystals. These have existed over this realm for generations, blessing the people with aether. Thanks to their blessings, the realms have continued to thrive letting the people live in the comfort of their homes.
More information on the game will be out in 2021 and we might even get a confirmed release date, until then, this is a game to keep your eye on if you get a PlayStation 5.
Returnal
Housemarque started last-generation with Resogun and they are repeating this again with Returnal. This is a third-person shooter with rogue-like elements.
Returnal is confirmed to launch on March 19, 2021. It stars Selena, who crash lands on a shape-shifting world. She has to search through this unknown landscape that is barren and full of ancient civilization and find a way to escape from it. Returnal offers a rogue-like element with its death mechanic where Selena can get killed and restarts from the beginning to fight for her survival again and again.
Returnal looks like an intriguing new game that offers a mix of new gameplay elements including Haptic Feedback, Adaptive Triggers, and 3D Audio support.
