Xbox Mode PC Benchmarks Show A Notable Performance Improvement Over Windows Desktop Mode In Some Games

Xbox mode PC benchmarks show a notable performance improvement over Windows 11 desktop mode in certain games.

Benchmarks from content creators Lombera and Dee Batch reveal that the new Xbox mode can bring noticeable performance gains over Windows 11 desktop mode in certain games. The mode is designed as a streamlined interface layered on top of Windows 11, prioritizing gaming performance by reducing background processes and system overhead. Rather than replacing the operating system, it functions as a specialized layer that delivers the benefit of a console-style and controller-first user interface.

Xbox mode benchmarks

In Crimson Desert, the improvements were relatively small, showing marginally reduced CPU usage and increased frame rates by up to  5 fps. Similarly, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Forza Horizon 5 showed a performance improvement of up to 4 fps and 7 fps, respectively. Cyberpunk 2077 showed a more noticeable frame rate increase of up to 10 fps. However, it was Marvel Rivals that demonstrated substantial performance gains, with an improvement in the range of up to 30 fps. On the other hand, The Finals and Monster Hunter Wilds showed negligible differences.

Most titles tested did perform better in Xbox mode, however, indicating that reduced background resource usage can translate into tangible in-game benefits in several cases. Performance gains did not appear tied to any specific storefront, and so a game installed via Steam, Epic Games, and Xbox exhibited the same performance metrics when running via Xbox mode.

It’s worth remembering that Xbox mode is still in beta. As such, it still contains bugs such as controller detection issues, interface lag, and conflicts with existing PC launchers. Whether future updates will bring further performance improvements remains to be seen, though early signs are promising.

Microsoft began rolling out Xbox Mode for Windows 11 PC on April 30, 2026, introducing a new console-like interface designed to make gaming more accessible across desktops, laptops, tablets, and handheld devices. To learn how to enable and fine-tune the feature, follow the link here.
