PS5 Firmware Update 20.02-02.50.00 Is Out, Changelog Here

Sony has released a PS5 firmware update 20.02-02.50.00 today improving the overall stability of the system and fixing the issue with PS4 discs.

One of the issues that users face on the PS5 was related to how the backward compatibility used to work with retail PS4 discs that also offered a free upgrade for the PS5. In this case, when a user inserts a retail PS4 disc with an upgrade, the console would automatically start installing the PlayStation 4 version instead of the PlayStation 5.

It appears that Sony has finally listened to the demand of fans and fixed this issue through a software update that was released today. The changelog for the new PS5 firmware update 20.02-02.50.00 is available to view below.

PS5 Firmware Update 20.02-02.50.00 Changelog

  • The PS4 version of the game was sometimes installed from the PS4 game disc even after upgrading the disc version of PS4 game to the PS5 version.
  • This system software update improves system performance

Aside from fixing these issues, there doesn’t appear to be any other major change included in the latest firmware update for the PlayStation 5. The generic changelog mentioning that this update improves performance is there but that is the case with most minor updates.
