Aquaman has managed to top $1 billion at the worldwide box office making it only the second DC film to achieve this feat after The Dark Knight Rises.

Aquaman is one of the surprise success stories of 2018. While it was normally expected to make a good amount of money as a superhero movie, there was no one who could have foreseen the movie making more than $1 billion worldwide. This happened not just because of the movie exploding in China, but also due to its strong legs in the domestic market where it is inching closer to $300 million.

Aquaman is from director James Wan, who is now the second film director in the world after James Cameron to direct two different franchise movies that gross more than $1 billion at the worldwide box office. This impressive feat was possible thanks to Aquaman and Fast and Furious 7.

It has made $17.3 million this weekend at the domestic box office and now the cumulative total for the movie has passed $1 billion at the worldwide box office. It can end up becoming the highest grossing DC film ahead of The Dark Knight Rises. The international box office for Aquaman has already surpassed all other DC films while the domestic gross should get closer to $340 million by the end of its run.
