Techland has cancelled the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of Dying Light: The Beast, saying the game’s technical demands made it impossible to deliver the intended experience on previous-generation hardware.
In a statement shared on social media, the developer said: “After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision that Dying Light: The Beast will no longer be released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.”
The studio explained that Dying Light: The Beast PS4 and Xbox One versions were no longer viable because the game was designed around current-generation systems. “Dying Light: The Beast was built from the ground up to take full advantage of current-generation hardware. Its open world, advanced visuals, and fluid combat and traversal all depend on processing power and memory that previous-generation consoles simply cannot provide.”
Techland added that, as development progressed, it became clear that releasing the game on older hardware would require significant compromises. “This was not a matter of choosing to leave those platforms behind. Rather, it reflected the technical realities of development and our commitment to delivering the best possible experience.”
The developer also apologised to players who had planned to purchase the game on PS4 or Xbox One, stating: “We know many of you were looking forward to playing on PS4 or Xbox One, and we are truly sorry for the disappointment this causes. Anyone who was expecting to play on either platform will be eligible for a refund.”
Released on September 18, 2025, Dying Light: The Beast is available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and Series S. The standalone entry follows original series protagonist Kyle Crane as he battles through the post-apocalyptic region of Castor Woods using a mix of parkour, survival horror, and newly awakened beast-like abilities.
