The release of Rockstar Games’ GTA 6 is rumored to happen during the Holiday 2024 period, with DLC scheduled to boost content post-launch.
According to GTAForums member Tez2, who has previously shared insight into the development of titles at Rockstar Games, the studio is targeting a holiday 2024 release for GTA 6, with DLC to follow. An announcement in this regard is expected to happen sometime later this year.
Tez2 cautioned that the release of GTA 6 has been pushed back multiple times in the past few years, and that it may even slip into early 2025. Holiday 2024 is the current release window that Rockstar Games is aiming for, however.
They also mentioned that most companies are returning with a “forced return to office” policy to revert back to pre-pandemic days. As such, according to them, Rockstar could be more firm about an announcement this year, given that almost the entirety of its workforce will be present in office. That said, they said that losing work talent could very much lead to further delays.
In Tez2’s opinion, a GTA 6 announcement is a given this year. They believe that the upper management is not in a position to delay the game’s release further to Holiday 2025/early 2026. As a result, cutting unfinished portions of the game from the launch build and releasing them as DLC post-launch may be more sustainable for management instead of delaying the game in its entirety.
Previously, Take-Two had stated that the GTA 6 leak was disappointing, though it won’t affect the game’s development. During its 2nd Quarter 2022 earnings call, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick stated that, with regard to the leak, it was terribly unfortunate and the publisher took this sort of incident very seriously. However, he said that there was no evidence that any material assets were taken, which he saw as a positive thing.
