Guerrilla Games has released a new set of screenshots for Horizon Forbidden West today and they are from the PS4 version.
We have already seen Horizon Forbidden West running on the PS5, but the PS4 version has been held back from marketing materials due to the focus on Sony’s one shiny console. This changes today as we have received our first look at the PS4 version directly from Guerrilla Games.
You can check out these stunning screenshots below. To be honest, even the original Horizon Zero Dawn looks amazing on the base PS4 so we are not surprised to see them.
What Is The Difference Between Horizon Forbidden West On PS4 and PS5
This is an easy question to answer. Guerrilla Games has already confirmed 60 FPS support for the PS5 version. This means that the game will likely run at a higher frame rate on the PS5, which gives it an advantage over the PS4 or PS4 Pro version. If we go by the resolution of the original game, the PS4 version was running at 1080p at 30 FPS while the PS4 Pro version was rendered at a checkerboard 4K resolution at 30 FPS.
Horizon Zero Dawn already runs at 60 FPS thanks to an update that was released for the PS5. This version appears to render at the same checkerboard 4K resolution. There might be two modes in the final version of the PS5.
One could be a quality mode that renders at native 4K at 30 FPS. The second could be a performance mode that could render at checkerboard 4K at 60 FPS.
Horizon Forbidden West will be released on February 18, 2022, for the PS4 and PS5.
