This week at the box office was good for both Warner Bros. Entertainment and Sony Pictures. Aquaman is continuing its record run at the international box office while Spider-Man opened to respectable numbers worldwide.

Aquaman is a surprise hit of the year considering the track record and reputation of DC Extended Universe. It was directed by James Wan, who has been blessed by the box office gods since every project he touches turns into box office gold. Aquaman has continued to do well in China and has grossed a grand total of $189M from there. In the rest of the markets, it has received a grand total of $71M bringing the international take to $261M.

Spider-Man Into The Spider-Verse opened a little tame compared to the critical reception it has received so far. It had a domestic opening of $35M according to early estimates while its worldwide cume is just short of $60M at $56M. Despite this modest opening, it seems to have a great word of mouth and legs will be strong for it going into the holidays, so expect the movie to end up making closer to $150M in the domestic market.

Aquaman has yet to open in the domestic market but early projects for it are putting it at a debut of $60M to $70M, which seems to be good enough for it to open as the number one movie. It has received positive reviews so far and the critics are loving the movie overall.
