The creators of Square Enix’s Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest series have shared praise for Sony Interactive Entertainment and Sucker Punch Productions’ action adventure game, Ghost of Tsushima.
Twitter/X user Genki_JPN, who posts about video game insight from Japan, has shared that Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi and Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii gave Ghost of Tsushima a shout out in their recent Japanese radio show appearance. Going by their words of praise, it appears to be a game that is admired by both game creators.
Ghost of Tsushima has been well-received by Japanese audiences, and the game is also lauded for its accurate depiction of Japanese culture and history. As one would expect, Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi and Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii have nothing but admiration for the action adventure game.
A film adaptation of Ghost of Tsushima is currently in development. During an interview from last year, movie director Chad Stahelski had confirmed that its script was ready to go after two years of development. He mentioned that, at the time, him and his creative team were very close to getting their act together on the project. Stahelski explained that a film’s development is always tricky, involving multiple factors, such as studios, strikes, scouting, and availability of actors and crew members. According to him, one has to will things into existence. He said that the two franchises that he is closest to and most interested in are Highlander and Ghost of Tsushima. He considers both amazing IPs, and referred to the story of Ghost of Tsushima as one of his all-time favorites.
Ghost of Tsushima was released for PlayStation 4 in July 17, 2020, with an expanded version for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, called Director’s Cut, including the Iki Island expansion, released on August 20, 2021. The PC version of Director’s Cut, developed by Nixxes Software, was released this year on May 16, 2024
