GTA V Update 1.006.002 Out Now, Removes Rockstar Editor On PS4 and Xbox One

Rockstar Games has released a new update for GTA V that patches the game to version 1.006.002 on PS5 and Xbox Series S|X. It is also available for PS4 and Xbox One.

The new patch appears to be related to removing Rockstar Editor on older-generation consoles. This decision was made to facilitate ongoing updates and support for GTA V and GTA Online on both console generations. While this feature is gone, the Director Mode is still available for the legacy console release.

The changes for GTA V patch 1.006.002 on the current-generation consoles are not confirmed as no patch notes are available yet. However, it will likely deal with minor bug fixes or new additions to GTA Online. (Update: Patch Notes added)

General

  • Added capacity for voice chat moderation testing (PlayStation 4 / Xbox One)
  • The Rockstar Editor and associated Replay functionality have been removed (PlayStation 4 / Xbox One)
  • ‘Vinewood Visionary’ and ‘Majestic’ Achievements/Trophies are now unlockable using Director Mode (PlayStation 5 / PlayStation 4 / Xbox Series X | S / Xbox One)

Fixes

  • Fixed an issue that resulted in players crashing when using voice chat (Xbox One)
  • Fixed an issue that resulted in voice chat not functioning after switching accounts while in game (Xbox One)
  • Fixed an issue that resulted voice chat icons not displaying correctly after changing Voice Chat setting to On (PlayStation 4 / Xbox One)

Rockstar Games has assured players that the Achievements and Trophies they have unlocked through the Rockstar Editor will still be obtainable via Director Mode after the update. This means that players can preserve their efforts and accomplishments associated with the Rockstar Editor. However, the update will have a direct impact on user-generated content. All Clips or Projects related to the Rockstar Editor on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will be deleted by February 20, 2024.

To avoid losing their creative works, players can export or save their Rockstar Editor Projects by uploading them to YouTube via their Rockstar Games account. This process will help preserve their projects outside the game environment, and Rockstar Games has provided a detailed guide to assist players with this.

GTA V is one of the best-selling games of all time, second to only Minecraft. It has sold a colossal 190 million units worldwide across the various platforms it has been released so far. Rockstar Games finally announced a successor with GTA VI that is reportedly planned to launch in 2025 for PS5 and Xbox Series S|X.
