The Nier franchise just turned ten years old this past year, and to celebrate the occasion, Square Enix hosted an anniversary livestream on their YouTube channel.
Some important people made an appearance during this event, perhaps the most notable of which was the creator of the series himself, Yoko Taro.
Among the many announcements and reveals that were made during this long livestream, there was one little piece of information that hit home for a lot of older Nier fans.
Nier Replicant Gestalt Content
Square Enix has stated that if Nier Replicant ver.1.22474487139… manages to sell at least half the number of copies that Nier: Automata did, then the publisher would consider adding Papa Nier to the game. They aren’t promising anything for sure, but they are saying that they will seriously consider this new content if the sales goals are met.
For reference, it was revealed less than a month ago that Nier: Automata had sold over five million copies worldwide. So in order for Nier Replicant to get this bonus content, it would have to sell a minimum of 2.5 million copies.
For those who may not know, Papa Nier, or Nier (Father), is the main protagonist of Nier Gestalt. He, alongside Nier (Brother), is the first protagonist of the series as a whole.
Nier: Automata has been a critical success for Square Enix, and the game has single-handedly introduced a ton of new players to the wonderful and weird universe that Yoko Taro has created. It was also recently discovered that the game has a secret cheat code that was hidden away for years.
