Sony Interactive Entertainment is possibly experimenting with dynamic game pricing on the PlayStation Store.
Some PS5 users are reporting that reporting that the PlayStation Store may be rolling out dynamic pricing for certain games, beginning with the recently released Astro Bot. One user noticed that Team Asobi’s 3D platformer appeared on sale for them on the store. However, they soon learned that not everyone had access to the same discount, and, in some cases, there was no discount to begin with.
It turns out that some lucky PlayStation users have ended up with a discount on Astro Bot that is in the range of 5% to 25%., while others continue to see the standard retail price of 59.99 US Dollars. This kind of personalized discounts have previously been seen on the Xbox Store. Sony Interactive Entertainment has also offered similar targeted discounts for PS Plus tiers to returning subscribers in recent months.
It’s unclear what the exact criteria is for being offered this deal, but if you’ve had Astro Bot on your PlayStation Store wishlist, chances are that a discount may be offered on the game. Another theory is that maxing out your PS Stars level on the PlayStation mobile app may be a requirement for such personalized discounts. On the other hand, there may not be any correlation with other factors, and who the discount is offered to may just be a completely random selection.
Recently, in its consolidated financial results for the second quarter ended September 30, 2024, Sony Group Corporation revealed that sales of Astro Bot had reached 1.5 million copies. The game reached this milestone as of November 3, 2024. Astro Bot fans will be glad to hear that their favorite 3D platformer has sold reasonably well. The game is likely to have long legs and should continue to sell well during the holiday season.
