Insomniac Games has revealed that their Spider-Man games have a lower install size on the PS5 compared to the PS4 which should save hard disk space.
While the PS5 comes with just 667 GB of usable space, it can be possible to install more games if the developers use the new compression technique on the PS5. According to Insomniac Games, the install size of the PS5 version is roughly 25% small than the PS4 version. This was shared by the Core Technology Director at Insomniac Games, Mike Fitzgerald on his Twitter account.

While the game was confirmed to have a minimal install size of 50 GB for PS5 before its launch, the actual file size is reportedly smaller as per Insomniac Games.
“I haven’t seen anyone point this out yet, but the install sizes of our Spider-Man titles are ~25% _smaller_ on PS5 than PS4, despite having higher-quality models, textures, and audio. Fewer shenanigans to maintain streaming bandwidth means lighter downloads and less drive waste!” said Mitch in a tweet.
He referenced Mark Cerny’s keynote on the hardware of PlayStation 5 which talked about some of the compression techniques that should lead to small file sizes on the PS5 compared to the PS4. In another tweet, he clarified one of the Photo Mode features on Spider-Man: Miles Morales that not all VFX density will be visible in the Photo Mode if the user is running it on the Performance mode.
Marvel’s Spider-Man has now sold more than 20 million copies. It has also received a remastered release for the PS5 in addition to a standalone sequel with Miles Morales which is out now on PS4 and PS5. The original game launched on September 7, 2018, for the PS4. After the success of Marvel’s Spider-Man, Sony acquired Insomniac Games making them another one of their first-party studios along with Naughty Dog and Guerrilla Games.
