The Last Guardian Dev Teases Artwork For New Project In 2021 Greetings Card

by Ali Haider

The Last Guardian was the first project by genDesign, headed by Fumito Ueda. They are now teasing their new project in a 2021 greetings card.

genDesign was founded by Fumito Ueda and Jinji Horagai. They have been working on a brand new game since leaving Sony after the release of The Last Guardian in 2016. Last year, Epic Games announced a publishing agreement that also included genDesign, so their new project is being funded by Epic Games.

At the start of the new year, they have updated their official website with a new piece of artwork. This is a 2021 greetings card that includes all of the previous projects by Ueda including ICO, Shadow of the Colossus, and The Last Guardian, but it also adds another project that hasn’t been officially shown by the developer.

If we take a closer look at the artwork, this shows a protagonist leaning against something that might be a wall, or even a living creature knowing the previous work of Ueda.

In the past, the website has also similarly teased new artwork, particularly in 2018 when they showcased a mysterious girl and some giant.

In 2020, they had another greeting card that appeared to tease some artwork, but it was not as clear as this year. Still, you can have a look at it in the tweet below.

After the publishing agreement with Epic Games, there is a good chance that this will be an Epic Games Store exclusive, but it can also release on other consoles including PlayStation 5. Regardless of whether this artwork belongs to their new project, or if it is just an ambiguous tease, it does look similar to Ueda’s older games in terms of overall aesthetics.
